Mandatory Training Day for Taxi Drivers: What You Need to Know in 2026

The CLA for Care Transport and Taxi 2026-2027 (Art. 1.13) requires employers to offer at least one training day per year (8 hours). Over five years, drivers must complete 5 training days (40 hours) in total, with all costs covered by the employer.

The Mandatory Training Day Under the CLA for Care Transport and Taxi 2026-2027

The CLA for Care Transport and Taxi 2026-2027 (in force 1 January 2026 to 31 December 2027) requires employers in Article 1.13 to offer at least one training day per year to their taxi drivers. This equals 8 hours of training per calendar year.

Five-Year Training Cycle

In addition to the annual requirement, a five-year cycle applies: over five consecutive calendar years, employer and driver must together complete at least 5 training days (40 hours). Employer and employee jointly determine when training takes place and what it covers.

What Counts as a Training Activity?

According to the CLA, the following activities may be included:

  • Mandatory training courses: Basic Taxi Training, CCV-D1 certified training
  • E-learning: Free modules such as dealing with aggression or safe wheelchair transport (Code VVR)
  • Work meetings and coaching sessions (if structured)
  • Legally required training: Local taxi regulations requirements

Costs and Compensation

The employer is required to cover:

  • Course and examination fees
  • Travel and accommodation costs
  • Training time itself, compensated at the applicable CLA hourly wage

Mandatory Registration

The employer must record the training hours per employee and keep this record for 5 years, signed by the employee. ILT inspectors and trade unions may request this during CLA audits.

Exception: TX-Keur Certified Companies

Taxi companies certified with the TX-Keur quality mark are exempt from the additional 5-training-days-in-5-years requirement, as they already meet the TX-Keur training standards.

Subsidy via the Social Fund for Taxi

  • ESF grant: up to 40% reimbursement of training and examination costs
  • Free e-learning: modules available via the Social Fund for Mobility (SFM)
