ILT Supervision of the Taxi Industry: What Does the Inspectorate Check?
The ILT (Inspectie Leefomgeving en Transport) is the supervisory authority for the Dutch taxi industry. They check licences, onboard computers, vehicles on the road and business records. Know what to expect.
What is the ILT?
The Inspectie Leefomgeving en Transport (ILT) is the Dutch government inspectorate responsible for a broad range of sectors, including transport. For the taxi industry, the ILT is the central enforcement body: it issues licences, conducts inspections and enforces taxi legislation.
What Does the ILT Check in the Taxi Sector?
Roadside Controls
The ILT conducts regular roadside checks, where inspectors stop taxis and verify:
- Licence: Does the operator hold a valid taxi transport licence?
- P-number and government pass: Is the driver registered and logged in with their own government pass?
- Onboard computer (BCT): Is the BCT operational and is the trip registered?
- Blue licence plate: Is the blue plate present and legally valid?
- Vehicle condition: Is the vehicle technically roadworthy (MOT, safety)?
- Maximum fares: Do the fares fall within the legal maximum rates?
Company Inspections
In addition to roadside controls, the ILT also inspects taxi companies on-site. This covers:
- Administration and time records (working hours and rest periods)
- CLA compliance (payslips, employment contracts)
- Vehicle files and maintenance records
- Training records for drivers
Fines the ILT Can Issue
| Violation | Fine |
|---|---|
| Operating without a taxi licence | € 4,400 |
| BCT not active during a trip | € 1,100 |
| No valid government pass | € 550 |
