Revenue Growth in the Taxi Industry: CBS Figures 2025
Statistics Netherlands (CBS) regularly publishes data on the economic development of the transport sector, including the taxi industry. The most recent publications show that revenue in the sector grew by nearly 4% in 2025 compared to the previous year.
This is a positive signal for the sector, which in recent years had struggled with the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic, rising costs and labour shortages.
Growth Drivers
- Tariff increases: The indexation of maximum fares contributes directly to higher revenue per ride
- Growing demand for care transport: An ageing population is generating more transport movements in the care and welfare segment
- Business transport: Airport and conference rides have bounced back from the COVID dip
- Tourism: Growing tourism in urban areas is boosting demand for taxi services
Regional Differences
Revenue growth is not evenly distributed across the Netherlands. Randstad regions (Amsterdam, Rotterdam, The Hague and Utrecht) show the strongest growth, while more rural areas lag somewhat behind.
What Does This Mean for Taxi Operators?
The positive revenue development creates opportunities, but should not obscure the fact that cost pressures are also increasing. Personnel costs are rising due to the CLA, while fuel and maintenance costs remain high. Growing revenue is only valuable if margins are maintained.
